TeleFOT is a Large Scale Collaborative Project under the Seventh Framework Programme for R&D.
It is co-funded by the European Commission DG Information Society and Media within the strategic objective “ICT for Cooperative Systems”.

To improve significance, visibility, comparability and transferability of available FOT results at National and European level, a common methodology has been developed. In 2008, the FESTA project, funded by the European Commission, developed a Handbook which gives general guidance on organizational issues, methodology and procedures, data acquisition and storage and evaluation.

In order to learn about and apply this methodology on Field Testing, the European Commission DG Information society and Media launched the Specific Support Action FOT-NET.
FOT-NET is conceived as the first Field Operational Networking Platform, aimed to gather together European and International Stakeholders to present results from Field Operational Tests, identify and discuss common working items and promote a common approach for FOTs.
National, European an International Field Operational Test organizers are now gathered in the strategic networking platform FOT-NET.

Currently two pan-European FOT projects are co-funded by the European Commission under the Seventh Framework Programme: euroFOT and TeleFOT.
euroFOT aims to establish a comprehensive, technical and socio-economic assessment programme for evaluating in real traffic conditions the impact of eight technically mature Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
TeleFOT assesses the impact on the driving task of functions provided by aftermarket and nomadic devices, including future interactive traffic services that will become part of driving environment systems within the next five years.

The TeleFOT INCO project supports international cooperation between TeleFOT and the “sister projects” SafeTrip-21, Safe and Efficient Travel through Innovation and Partnerships in the 21st Century” (University of California PATH programme and NAVTEQ, USA), VMC project (ETRI, Korea) and Ubiquitous Transportation Systems (KOTI, Korea) by multilateral exchange on the use of travel and traffic information for driver support by means of aftermarket and nomadic devices.
The cooperation concerns Field Operational Tests (FOT) in particular in countries worldwide which are currently running or starting FOTs in comparable areas to those of the TeleFOT project.

In a perspective of networking and sharing, a free encyclopedia of FOTs has been created:

This wiki intends to be a resource for anyone interested in field operational tests, their organisation, their set up and their results.
